This private residence, located in the village of Săcele near Brașov, is a striking exploration of minimalist geometry and raw materiality set against a lush, forested backdrop. The design responds to its natural context through bold contrasts and carefully choreographed volumes, emphasizing clean lines, spatial hierarchy, and a strong connection to the landscape.
The house is conceived as a monolithic volume, defined by sharp edges and a predominantly horizontal rhythm. A restrained palette of dark textured concrete, natural wood, and reflective glass amplifies the sculptural quality of the building, while also anchoring it visually within its forested environment. The use of vertical slats and recessed elements on the façade introduces rhythm and privacy while softening the massing. Strategic openings and cantilevered overhangs enhance the architectural tension, creating dynamic relationships between solid and void, light and shadow.
The spatial configuration unfolds over two levels, with public functions—living, dining, and kitchen—occupying the transparent ground floor. These open areas extend directly into the outdoor terrace and garden, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior. The ground floor is wrapped in glazing, allowing natural light to pour in while fostering visual continuity with the landscape. The upper level is more solid and protective, housing private functions such as bedrooms and bathrooms. A continuous balcony with wood-lined soffits adds warmth and frames panoramic views of the surrounding greenery, offering both intimacy and openness. Vertical circulation is positioned discreetly to maintain the purity of the plan and reinforce privacy between zones.
Nestled into its plot, the building maintains a low profile from the street while opening generously toward the backyard. The outdoor space is designed as an extension of the interior, featuring a partially covered terrace, a built-in outdoor fireplace, and a landscaped garden—ideal for quiet retreat or social gatherings.
