Set within the tranquil landscape of Cărpiniș village, this single-family home reinterprets traditional rural forms through a contemporary lens. The design responds to both the natural surroundings and the client’s need for a warm, efficient, and modestly scaled residence that blends minimalism with domestic comfort.
The volume is composed of three gabled modules arranged around a central outdoor deck, forming a U-shaped layout that maximizes privacy while creating a protected outdoor courtyard. This configuration allows for an intuitive separation of spaces—living, sleeping, and service zones—while maintaining visual and spatial coherence.
A restrained palette of natural wood cladding, white plaster, and standing seam metal roofing defines the exterior, reflecting a Scandinavian-inspired simplicity. The use of vertical wooden siding echoes vernacular barn architecture, anchoring the house to its rural context while asserting a modern identity.
Large windows and glazed openings invite daylight into the home and create fluid connections to the garden and surrounding forest. Interiors prioritize openness, clarity, and functionality, enhanced by the clean detailing and a muted material palette. The wooden deck serves as a transitional element between interior and exterior spaces, extending the living area into the landscape.
Sited carefully to preserve existing trees and maximize passive solar gains, the house embraces principles of low-impact construction. Natural ventilation, thermally efficient materials, and an orientation that supports daylighting contribute to the building’s environmental performance. This project reflects a holistic approach to contemporary rural living—one that values simplicity, craftsmanship, and harmony with nature.
