The house on Petru Rares street is a contemporary extension to an existing single-family home. The project creates a clear dialogue between the old and the new—bridging traditional residential forms with modern design sensibilities.
The owner wanted a house that would soothe him or any family who might rent it. The extension is characterized by a pair of steeply pitched gables, echoing vernacular roof forms while introducing a bold, modern interpretation. These gabled volumes not only maximize usable space in the upper floors but also assert a strong, sculptural presence. A restrained material palette and minimal detailing allow the new volumes to stand confidently alongside the original home.
The ground floor of the extension houses expanded living and dining areas with direct access to the garden through floor-to-ceiling sliding doors. The upper floors accommodate bedrooms and private spaces, featuring large windows that frame exterior views and bring in ample natural light.
